Light
causes product damage resulting in losses totaling vast amounts of money
each year. Products or materials exposed to direct sunlight, or to sunlight
filtered through window glass, are subject to maximum risk.
The Q-Sun Xenon Test Chamber uses full spectrum xenon
arc lamps to reproduce the damaging wavelengths of light encountered in
a multitude of environments.
Q-Sun is used for the selection of new materials, the
improvement of existing materials or evaluating the changes in product
formulation that affect product durability. This is an ideal instrument
for total Accelerated Light Stability and Weathering Testing; and can
be used to test for light stability quickly.
Full Spectrum Sunlight Simulation
The Q-SUN tests materials for Photostability by exposing
them to UV, visible and IR light. It uses filtered xenon arc light for
the ultimate correlation to the full spectrum of sunlight. Depending on
the desired effect, the xenon light is normally filtered to achieve an
appropriate spectrum like direct Daylight or sunlight behind Window-Glass.
The exposure application or test protocol dictates which filters should
be used.
Weathering
The Q-SUN Xenon Test Chamber can be operated as a weathering
tester by the addition of the Water Spray Option to simulate the effect
of moisture on materials exposed outdoors. The spray periods are completely
programmable and can be timed to occur during either the light or dark
periods. In addition to the moisture effects themselves, the Q-SUN's water
spray cycle is useful for introducing thermal shock and mechanical erosion.
The spray times on the samples are not dependent on
the exposure of a moving sample to a stationary spray, but are based on
the programme and can be set to suit the test, since the samples are stationary.
Indoor Photostability Testing
Products exposed to fluorescent, halogen or other general
lighting lamps in retail, warehouse or other environments, may also experience
significant photodegradation.
The Q-SUN's low purchase price and low lamp prices are
a breakthrough in the price/performance equation. Both the economical
bench-top Q-Sun Xe-1 and the larger Q-Sun Xe-3 testers offer the features
needed in a xenon arc chamber:
- Full Spectrum Xenon Light
- Choice of Filter Systems
- Solar Eye TM Irradiance Control
- ISO 9000 Calibration
- Black Panel Temperature Control
- ISO and ASTM Compliance
- 3D Specimen Mounting
- Water Spray Option
- Humidity Control Option
- Easy to use
- Available in free standing & desktop models
Simple to Use
The Q-SUN Xenon Test Chamber is easy to install, easy
to use and practically maintenance free. Specimen Mounting is flexible,
fast and easy with the Q-Sun's unique slide-out specimen tray, accommodating
different sizes of flat panels, as well as three-dimensional components,
parts, bottles, test tubes or Petri dishes. Low cost air-cooled lamps
are very quick and easy to replace, while long-life filters maintain the
required spectrum. The Q-SUN is completely automated and can operate continuously,
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
